Three Philadelphia Projects to Receive 2014 ArtPlace America Grants
June 25, 2014 Category: Funding, UncategorizedThis morning, ArtPlace America Executive Director Jamie L. Bennett announced $14.7 million in 55 grants to creative placemaking projects. The projects were selected from the 97 finalists announced in February. Out of the 55 grants, three were awarded to Philadelphia-based organizations:
- Asian Arts Initiative and Center for Architecture will receive a $644,885 grant for their project, “Pearl Street + DesignPhiladelphia PopUp Place”
- The Center City District Foundation will receive a $130,000 grant for “Transforming Dilworth Plaza with Pulse”
- The Village of Arts and Humanities will receive a $280,000 for its project “SPACES: Artists-In-Residency-Program at The Village of Arts and Humanities”
Last year, ArtPlace grants went to the Department of Making + Doing, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC), Fringe Arts, and Destination Frankford.
In addition, a $475,000 was awarded to Cooper’s Ferry Partnership in Camden, New Jersey for Camden Night Gardens, an artist-led initiative to transform community gardens and open spaces with temporary light, sound, and projections in an effort to visually connect two neighborhoods, North Camden and Cooper Grant, which are separated by the Ben Franklin Bridge. It will also be designed to help draw visitors from Philadelphia across the bridge.
