Could your nonprofit develop the next successful workforce partnership? The Job Opportunity Investment Network (JOIN), a collaboration of local funders, is working to close the gap between low-skilled jobseekers and the needs of regional employers by offering $50,000 challenge grants.

Nonprofits with the ability to grow strong partnerships that train and prepare talent for the workforce are eligible to compete. The grant opportunity, called the “Win-Win Challenge,” seeks applicants from across the Philadelphia region. The deadline to apply is September 15.

“We recognize that organizations need support and time to be innovative and develop new programming, and the way to do that is to support them during the process,” said Jennie Sparandara, who directs JOIN.

JOIN’s goal is to pilot and test new models of job training, and it seeks nontraditional groups — such as arts and culture organizations — to send in their best workforce-boosting ideas.

“We’re looking for organizations that have relationships or credibility with employers,” Sparandara added.

JOIN expects to make four $50,000 planning grants, followed by two, two-year implementation grants — up to $300,000 each — to fund the partnerships that demonstrate the most potential for innovative, replicable results.

“We are looking to support the development of new partnerships and folks who want to engage with us in that process,” Sparandara said.
