The NFL Draft will produce a lot of waste. Here’s a peek at Philly’s defensive playbook

The NFL wants to reduce the inevitable impact Draft attendees will have on Philadelphia's environment. April 10, 2017 Category: MethodShort

Up to 200,000 people could converge on Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Parkway for the NFL Draft at the end of the month, and Philadelphians have a lot of questions: What will happen to all the waste attendees will produce? How about all the food and drink they’ll inevitably leave unconsumed? And will the Eagles draft a cornerback in the first round?

Fear not, Philly.com has (most of) the answers you’ve been looking for.

According to the site, the NFL is working with city agencies, local sustainability organizations and a horde of volunteers on a game plan to curb the potential impact of the upcoming three-day event on the environment.

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful and Sierra Club volunteers will helm 16 recycling and composting stations set up throughout the parkway. Leftover foodstuffs will either be donated to Philabundance or composted in Fairmount Park. Construction materials will be re-used by Habitat for Humanity and Resource Exchange.
