A process called trust-based philanthropy is in. Don't expect your post-grant reports to go away though.

The Merchants Fund is providing grants of up to $5,000 to Philadelphia businesses that have suffered direct physical damage and/or inventory losses.

The joint funding is notable, in part, because only 1.6% of philanthropic dollars in America support women’s and girls’ organizations, according to guest columnists Jacqueline Ackerman and Tessa Skidmore.

The Pew Charitable Trusts announced four grant awards totaling $3.2 million, while the Forman Arts Initiative's and Philadelphia Foundation's joint venture, the Art Works Grant, promises $3 million to the arts over the next five years. 

"Every day, nonprofits serving our county have been on the front lines offering critical services to Delaware County residents," said Frances Sheehan of the Foundation for Delaware County.

According to experts, one of the most under-discussed aspects of ARP is that it represents "not only the largest positive fiscal jolt to state and local budgets in decades, but also the one most supportive of local discretion."
