AAVS is seeking a Business Manager with superb accounting and organizational skills, who is interested in being at the center of a friendly office of about a dozen people who spend every day dedicated to helping animals. The Business Manager plays a key role in our organization, which is committed not only to high ethical standards, but also high operational standards of nonprofit management, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and proactive compliance with all legal requirements. The Business Manager is responsible for essential administrative activities, with a focus on administration, finance, human resources, operations, and office accounting systems, reporting directly to, and working closely with, the President.


Responsibilities and Duties
Daily activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • organizing and processing invoices, preparation of checks, including collecting information for credit card charges
  • accounting for cash receipts

In addition, the Business Manager is responsible for:

  • processing the bi-weekly payroll via service provider
  • preparation of monthly accruals and maintenance of the general ledger
  • preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
  • reconciling bank statements to the general ledger,
  • preparation and/or review of all expense reports for accuracy and proper expense classification
  • tracking and processing estates, trusts, and maintaining files for those
  • maintaining records for Charitable Gift Annuity recipients,
  • tracking compensated absences, and
  • administering employee benefits, including insurance and retirement plans.

The Business Manager represents AAVS’s interests in dealings with financial, legal, and some other professional service providers, vendors, including Auditors and outsourced accounting services, and others as needed.

The Business Manager provides support for the President, preparing summary financial reports for Board meetings, and assisting in analysis, documentation, planning and projections. Working with AAVS’s President, the Business Manager is a partner in continuous improvement of operational policies and procedures for AAVS.


  • Position requires formal training: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field;
  • Proficiency with accounting software (3 years minimum experience);
  • Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • 3-5 years relevant experience;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Thrives in a collaborative, team player office environment;
  • Ability to interface well with staff and external business contacts;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

This is a full time position, located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Salary commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits package.
