Title: Development Manager

Reports To: Executive Director

Job Status: Full Time, 12 month position


This is an exciting time for Providence Center! We are a 25 year old community center in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.  During your work at Providence Center, you will get to know adults who are coming to learn English, children who come to strengthen their resiliency and stress management skills, and teens who come to become leaders who can make positive change in their community.

A year ago we moved into a newly renovated 6,500 square foot community center.  The additional space has opened new possibilities for programming to support our vibrant, predominantly Latinx community. Working closely with our Executive Director, the Development Manager will support Providence Center’s growth by strengthening our existing donor connections and by building new relationships to help us expand our funding base. The Development Manager will also support to our board of directors, staff, and students, helping them to tell the story of their connection to Providence Center in compelling ways.


  • Work with the Executive Director to coordinate engagement with individuals, churches, and civic groups, including monthly donors and young professionals groups.
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for Providence Center to raise awareness of our work with potential new donors.
  • Create newsletters, email newsletters, website revisions, and social media posts, including content and design.
  • Work with our students, donors, and board to gather testimonials.
  • Write foundation, corporate and government grants with the Executive Director, ensuring proposals and reports are sent and working to build new foundation relationships.
  • Support the board and staff to plan and implement fund-raisers and friend-raisers.
  • Manage gifts processing and our donor database.
  • Support and maintain communication with volunteers.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience writing compelling stories and testimonials preferred.
  • Experience designing newsletters, e-newletters, and webpages, with an emphasis on photos and quotes, preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will understand donor cultivation and managing donor relationships.
  • Experience working with children and teens, particularly from low-income communities.
  • Knowledge of Office 365, Publisher, and WordPress preferred.

 Skills and Abilities:

  • Written communication: Write clearly and persuasively, tell a compelling story, edit work for spelling and grammatical errors, and present numerical data effectively.
  • Digital communication: Prepare and post content to digital media (social media, e-newsletters, webpage, etc.).
  • Oral communication: Speak clearly and tell a compelling story to individuals and to groups.
  • Interpersonal communication: Connect well with and demonstrate sincere interest in all kinds of people, with the desire to understand their perspective and needs.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands and able to handle change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines in a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.


$40,000 per year.  Health benefits and a retirement contribution match are provided.

Providence Center is a non-profit community center serving the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.  We were founded in 1993 by the Holy Child Sisters, an order that has taught and worked in the neighborhood for over 100 years. Our students come back year after year to be part of out-of-school time programming designed to build resiliency, leadership, and community. Families also have access to English language classes and other supports.
