The Director of External Relations is responsible for fundraising, community outreach and communications for Depaul’s programs in Philadelphia and New York City. The Director will cultivate and steward relationships between Depaul Philadelphia and corporations, individuals, and foundations as well as plan and execute revenue generating special events. The Director will also create a development plan for Depaul’s newest project in Queens, NY and assist the NYC Coordinator in executing it. The Director of External Relations serves as a passionate, enthusiastic and visible spokesperson for the organization, and the people it serves. The Director will be based in Philadelphia.
The ideal Director of External Relations will be an experienced professional with at minimum 3 years of experience in developing relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders; fundraising; and organizing events.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
-Represent the organization in external facing opportunities.
-Constantly liaise with and meet with donors; develop, cultivate and promote positive relationships with key corporations; engage with volunteers and board members with a focus on building strong, sustainable relationships.
-Develop long-term cultivation and pipeline management strategies for Depaul USA’s supporters to inspire growth in donor commitment through research, data mining and analysis, relationship-building, and use of ambassador networks. Create personalized cultivation plans that can be communicated to all involved parties, and assure the plan is documented and subsequent contacts with the prospect are recorded in the DonorPerfect database.
-Business development: proactively identify new opportunities for growth for Depaul USA in collaboration with the Philadelphia Director and Executive staff.
-Develop a supporter/donor communications plan (i.e., email updates, funder briefings, etc.) to ensure foundations, government agencies and community members and are kept informed of timely or new developments.
-Assist with all aspects of preparation for foundation or government agency meetings. Represent Depaul USA at funder meetings or gatherings as needed.
-Organize cultivation and stewardship events with volunteers and other staff to introduce new prospects to Depaul USA
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Bachelor’s degree required;
-Basic knowledge of Philadelphia’s philanthropic community, social services landscape, and
-Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and the ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment.

In NY, Depaul opened a housing program for homeless college students at St. John’s University in May 2021.
