Position Summary:

The National Liberty Museum (NLM) is seeking a full-time Grant Writer to join our Development team. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is an excellent writer, enjoys strategizing new partners and programs, and takes a lot of pride in taking a new opportunity from research and discovery to close! You will cultivate new potential funders as well as steward existing supporters. You will collaborate with all members of our Development team and other departments of the NLM for data and financials as needed for application and reporting packages.

Are you adept at working with donor databases?
Special consideration given to those candidates who are skilled at querying and creating reports that support our funding proposals and development initiatives.

Reports to: Chief Development Officer.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the NLM’s existing grants calendar
  • Manage all activities required to prepare, write, submit and steward grant proposals for foundation, corporate and government grantors, adhering to grant requirements and guidelines
  • Participate in all aspects of the grant cycle, and communicate with the NLM’s current grantors; steward our grant supporters, providing timely updates that encourage their continued engagement in the Museum
  • Research and analyze new sources of support to expand NLM’s operational budgets for our programs; strategize new grant partnership opportunities that advance the Museum; develop and cultivate new relationships among grantors and potential funding sources
  • Work efficiently with our donor database Altru, inputting and tracking proposals, as well as conducting query and report generation for internal and external communications and mailing lists


Qualifications and Skills:

  • 4-year degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years’ experience with grant research, writing and submission
  • Experience with or strong knowledge of non-profit fundraising
  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clear, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Strong editing skills with keen attention to detail
  • Highly organized with experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • High proficiency with Microsoft platforms – Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with Altru, or other donor database, preferred
  • Experience with developing proposals for foundation, corporate and institutional donors
  • Ability to work independently as well as on project teams
  • Participate and assist with Development and Museum events and activities, as needed
