Black Girls Love Math (BGLM) is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to exponentially increasing the number of Black girls who pursue and persist in STEM fields. BGLM creates culturally-affirming informal learning spaces where Black girls develop math confidence, problem-solving skills, and a positive STEM identity, building the skills, mindset, and agency to thrive academically and beyond.
BGLM’s programming is grounded in culturally-related teaching, mentorship, and school partnerships, with an emphasis on fostering math identity, fluency, and problem-solving. Through this holistic approach, BGLM addresses systemic racial and gender bias in math education while providing enrichment, career exploration, and college readiness support.
At its core, BGLM is a community-rooted, student-centered organization. Our leadership team, including founder and CEO Atiyah Harmon and Senior Program Manager Helane Rogers, oversees program design, implementation, and mentorship, supported by volunteers and a committed board. Programs are delivered in small groups to ensure individualized support, engagement, and a sense of belonging.
