About Mentor Leaders Produce Mentor Leaders (MLPML)

Mentor Leaders Produce Mentor Leaders (MLPML) is a nonprofit organization based in West Philadelphia, dedicated to transforming the lives of youth and young adults ages 10–24. Founded by educator, author, and community advocate Vincent Garrett, MLPML was born from a deep belief that the best way to uplift communities is by investing in young people and equipping them to lead with purpose, resilience, and vision.

At its core, MLPML operates on the principle that every mentee has the potential to become a mentor. Our mission is to guide youth through a comprehensive journey of personal development, academic success, professional readiness, and emotional growth. We offer a combination of year-round mentorship, seasonal intensives, and targeted support programs tailored to the unique needs of both the child and their family.

Through our structured curriculum and culturally responsive approach, participants gain:

Academic support and literacy-based learning opportunities, including programs that incorporate Vincent Garrett’s Missing Dad book series.

Leadership training that fosters confidence, responsibility, and critical thinking.

Life skills development in areas such as financial literacy, emotional intelligence, and communication.

Professional development and workforce readiness, preparing youth for real-world success through hands-on experiences, mock interviews, and career exploration.

Community engagement that encourages giving back and leading with empathy.

What makes MLPML unique is our authentic and relatable approach to mentorship. Many of our facilitators and volunteers have walked similar paths as the youth we serve—creating a safe, judgment-free environment where growth, vulnerability, and transformation can take place. Our programs are currently offered in schools and community centers throughout Philadelphia and are expanding across the region.

MLPML doesn’t just mentor youth—we build the next generation of mentors. Every success story becomes a ripple effect, empowering participants to take what they’ve learned and lead others. Our vision is a future where young leaders are not only equipped to succeed but committed to creating positive change in their communities.
