About Mercy Neighborhood Ministries

The Mission of Mercy Neighborhood Ministries is to respond in a spirit of Mercy to the needs of the underserved in our community. For over 30 years, we have served the Nicetown-Tioga community as a trusted friend and partner. We provide multigenerational services to over 300 families annually in the areas of Early Education & Youth Development, Adult Education, Workforce Development & Job Readiness, Senior Care and Food & Nutritional Support. Through our programming and partnerships, we work to break the cycle of poverty affecting over 20% of people in the city of Philadelphia.

Programming

Our childcare programming consists of Pre-K starting at 2.5 years old and afterschool up to 8th grade. For students, we have an academically enriched curriculum and provide extracurricular activities to foster a love of learning and structured fun, like our STEM workshops in coding, robotics and other subjects. In June of 2018, in partnership with another local nonprofit based in Germantown, we opened our second childcare site, with the capacity to serve 60 children solely through Head Start. Our Senior Care participants must be over 60 years old and nursing home eligible, with 80% of participants receiving Medicaid subsidies and over 90% living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Along with our human-centric medical care given, we host a number of engaging events and activities for our seniors. Whether taking a basic math class or improving one’s interviewing skills, our Adult Ed and Path to Prosperity programs have helped over 100 individuals find new careers while boosting their overall confidence. Our Mercy Meals food distribution program provides fresh food and shelf stable products to 150 people each week, and takes about $100 off a family’s grocery bill for the week.
