WHAT:
The Stephen E. Codella, MD Memorial Foundation is
investing $10,000 to bring Musicopia’s Modern Band program to students at
Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School in Philadelphia, creating new
opportunities for young people to experience the confidence, creativity and
connection that come through making music.
The investment reflects the Foundation’s commitment to
creating meaningful, lasting opportunities in the areas that mattered deeply to
Dr. Stephen E. Codella, including education, medicine, music and hope. Music
was an important part of Dr. Codella’s life, making the partnership with
Musicopia a particularly personal way to honor his legacy while providing
students with access to high-quality music education.
Through the $10,000 commitment, Musicopia will support
the implementation of its Modern Band program at Eugenio Maria de Hostos
Charter School, providing resources for curriculum development, teacher
support, and programming designed to engage students through contemporary
music.
Modern Band offers an innovative approach to music
education, inviting students to learn and perform music they recognize and
connect with while developing musicianship, collaboration, creativity and
self-confidence. By making music education accessible and relevant, the program
can help students discover talents and interests that extend far beyond the
classroom.
“Steve had a lifelong love of music, and it brought him
tremendous joy throughout his life,” said Mark Codella, Stephen’s father and
Founder and President of the Foundation. “This investment is about sharing that
joy with young people who deserve the opportunity to discover what music can
mean in their own lives. We are proud to partner with Musicopia to create
something that honors Steve while making a tangible and lasting difference for
Philadelphia students.”
