Monkey and The Elephant Cafe Set to Open at Transfer Station

December 6, 2013 Category: PurposeUncategorized

Transfer Station announced via it’s Facebook page that they will be the the Monkey and the Elephant Cafe‘s new home starting on Monday, December 9.

The Transfer Station is a co-working space that offers tailor-made spaces and customized support services for bringing ideas to life in Manayunk.

“[I] just really loved the energy they were putting into it and the whole vision of the collaborative space and really wanted to be a part of it,” says The Monkey and Elephant founder Lisa Miccolis. “They’re building a community and I’m also looking to build a community, so the two I thought would work really well together.”

Started in November 2012, The Monkey and the The Elephant began as a pop-up cafe in the Italian Market at Taffet’s Bakery, giving a former foster youth,  Michell, employment and mentoring. The program will work with partner organizations to smooth the transition youth make from foster care to independence by providing workforce training, mentorship and connections to support service agencies for housing, counseling services, financial literacy, GED certification, higher education and vocational training.

The new cafe, the Monkey and the Elephant’s second pop-up cafe, will be open from 8am to 2pm daily. They will start with locally sourced pour-over coffee from a rotating selection of roasters as well as a variety of Philadelphia-based Steap brand teas. They plan to steadily increase their coffee selection over the winter as well as source breakfast and lunch food offerings from local and aspiring bakers and home cooks.

Monkey and The Elephant was also recently featured on My Fox Philly.
