The Douty Foundation, a longtime Philadelphia-based funder that makes grants to youth-focused organizations in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties, is seeking eligible applicants for its fall grantmaking cycle. The deadline is September 15.
“We see our niche as supporting smaller organizations that are rooted in the community and responding to a need, with a particular focus on serving youth,” said Jennifer Leith, the Foundation’s executive director.
While it tends to support nonprofits that have smaller operating budgets — around $400,000 — the Foundation is not afraid to provide seed money for a new organization or idea, according to Leith. Current grantees include Girls Justice League, Neighborhood Bike Works, and the Attic Youth Center, among others.
The average grant size is between $4,000 and 7,500, and roughly 60 percent of grantees receive general operating funds. The Douty Foundation also provides multi year grants, and is willing to help applicants troubleshoot the application process — or determine how their ideas are aligned with the Foundation’s priorities.
For prospective nonprofits, Leith advised, “Give me a call or shoot me an email. If you have any questions along the way, reach out.”
