Philly Future Track Workforce Program to Engage Unemployed Young Adults

September 8, 2014 Category: Uncategorized

Philadelphia Streets Department‘s Philly Future Track program offers job-skill training and real-world work experience to those who are not currently enrolled in higher education and are unemployed. Applications for the program are due September 12 and applicants should be residents of Philadelphia and between the ages of 18-24 in order to maximize program benefits.

The Philly Future Track program began January 2013 and has held two sessions so far.

The six-month program provides an opportunity for individuals to improve their economic and academic position. Participants are paid for the five workdays required by the program. For three days, participants will help in neighborhood beautification projects, including:

  • Conducting beautification projects
  • Cleaning alleyways to improve safety
  • Maintaining Litter Free Zones
  • Conducting Litter Index evaluations
  • Learning to use tools and equipment
  • Hazardous waste control

The other two days are spent on career-readiness, preparing participants to transition to full time employment, a two or four-year educational institution, a vocational training program/school, or to take the military aptitude test (ASVAB). They’ll learn skills such as:

  • Goal setting
  • Communication skills
  • Promoting civic pride and values
  • Team building
  • Interview and presentation skills
  • Understanding finances

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the course will begin later in the fall, although a specific date hasn’t been chosen yet.
