Calling Social Service Leaders: Take This Community Support Survey

February 25, 2015 Category: Results

The Philadelphia African American Leadership Forum, a collaborative of African American leaders in Philadelphia committed to improving the quality of life for the African American community, is collecting research on African American-led nonprofit organizations in Philadelphia.

Urban Affairs Coalition, on behalf of the Philadelphia African American Leadership Forum, received funding from the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey to complete the research, which will be conducted by Branch Associates, Inc.

The research will document the critical role that African American-led nonprofits play in supporting and uplifting our community. Part of that includes a survey. All nonprofit CEOs, presidents, and executive directors are asked to participate in the survey regardless of whether they are an African American-led nonprofit.

“We are most interested in social service type organizations (youth development, workforce development, human services, capacity building, advocacy, etc.),” said Dr. Jennifer Thompson, vice president of Branch Associates, Inc, in an email.

In addition to the survey, Branch Associates will be doing qualitative research including focus groups with leaders and interviews with funders that will build on and help explain findings from the survey.

“The group hopes to document the vital role that African American-led nonprofits play in local communities and in the city as a whole. The Forum is interested in exploring the extent to which African American-led nonprofits, as compared with nonprofits led by other groups, deliver added value (whether in terms of access, sensitivity, understanding of needs, etc.) to their operations,” said  Thompson.“The Forum also hopes to better understand the needs and challenges of African American-led organizations in Philadelphia — in capacity, resources, and technology.”

Nonprofit leaders can take the survey until the end of March at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7PN7HF7.
