M. Night Shyamalan Foundation Panel to Feature Springboard Collaborative Founder

April 9, 2015 Category: Purpose

Next Friday, April 17, The M. Night Shyamalan Foundation will host a panel discussion, “Action to Make a Better World,” featuring M. Night Shyamalan and his wife, Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan, Vice President of the MNSF, with three grantees, to discuss their work and progress so far.

The MNS Foundation supports the grassroots efforts that local leaders make as they work to remove the barriers created by poverty. The event, MNSF’s first public event, is co-organized by Global Philadelphia Association and the Penn Museum.

The three grantees speaking at the event include Katie Meyler, founder of More Than Me, James Kofi Annan, founder of Challenging Heights, and Alejandro Gac-Artigas, founder of Philadelphia-based Springboard Collaborative.

Gac-Artigas founded Springboard Collaborative in 2011 to close the reading achievement gap by coaching teachers, training family members, and incentivizing learning in Philadelphia. According the MNSF website, it awarded Springboard Collaborative its first official grant when it was a program serving 42 kids in one school. Since then, the program has grown to 8 schools serving 640 children. Recently, Springboard Collaborative announced its expansion to the San Francisco Bay Area.

The event will take place Friday, April 17, 6:00 pm in the Widener Lecture Hall of the Penn Museum, 3260 South Street in Philadelphia. The event is free, but space is limited and online advance reservations are required.
