Philly is a gateway for immigrants — Mayor’s office wants you to interview them
July 6, 2015 Category: PurposeThis summer, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs (MOIMA), in collaboration with immigrant stakeholders, will be conducting an assessment of the quality of life of the immigrant community in Philadelphia.
With the “largest and fastest growing immigrant population” (Brookings Institute, 2008) compared to its peer regions, Philadelphia has re-emerged as a gateway for immigrants living in diverse communities. In order to better understand the immigrants’ perceptions about living in Philadelphia and to take action towards the obstacles they face, MOIMA will be conducting a quality-of-life assessment of the Philadelphia immigrant community from mid-June to September.
The project consists of three steps:
Step 1 – Interview preparation, conducting interviews, and gathering data
Step 2 – Interview data cleaning and analysis
Step 3 – Producing report, and presenting key findings to the communities
MOIMA expects to interview approximately 150 individuals and stakeholders and are looking to recruit a minimum of 30 interviewers.
A training session for the project will be held on the morning of July 8. The training session is designed to help those who are interested in helping in the process of interviewing leaders throughout Philadelphia’s immigrant community.
