Global Citizen wants to talk race, class, and power over beers
July 13, 2015 Category: PurposeGlobal Citizen wants to talk about how we can confront and overcome barriers in race, class and power– over beers.
On Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Reading Terminal Market, Global Citizen will hold its 7th annual Beer Summit on race relations.
Global Citizen first organized their Beer Summit shortly after the July 2009 arrest of Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates, on the front porch of his own home by Cambridge Police Sergean James Crowley. President Obama invited the two men to the White House for a meeting over beer to discuss the incident. Global Citizen organized locally in Center City for interested Philadelphians to meet and discuss race relations in our city and throughout the nation.
As racially charged police killings, the Charleston church massacre, arsons in places of worship and the Black Lives Matter movement generate heightened outrage, discussion, and activism around racism and civil rights, this event is intended as a city-focused discussion on how to address and overcome these issues in Philadelphia
Tickets (including beer, soft drinks, and food) for this free event are limited, so registration (and participation when you get there) is required.
