The fifth annual BlackStar Film Festival launches tomorrow, and festival founder Maori Karmael Holmes has seen “magic” happen.
“We’re now in this place where in the fifth year, there are two people who have made films from coming to the first festival and feeling like they could make films because they saw people who looked like them make it work,” Holmes told us recently. “Things just coalesce. I feel like it’s magic.”
To further encourage that magic, we’re offering two free tickets to Sunday’s screening of feature narrative “9 Rides” to one reader who subscribes to our daily editorial newsletter.
Just type “BLACKSTAR” into the “Code” field by noon on Friday, Aug. 5, to be entered to win.
