This technologist wants companies to grant employees time off on Election Day
August 31, 2016 Category: Purpose, ShortBelieve it or not, taking off of work to vote on Election Day is not an option for every employee at every business. That rings especially true for employees working minimum wage jobs in industries like food service.
That’s why Dain Saint, a local video game developer at Cipher Prime, has launched Free The Vote, an initiative asking companies to give their employees paid time off on Election Day to hit the booths.
“Most jobs in the tech scene, for example, have a certain flexibility,” Saint told Technical.ly Philly. “But what about the single mother working at Wendy’s who also has to take her kids to school? She’s going to have to make the choice between making three hours pay and voting. And that’s not a choice somebody should have to make.”
