Homeless women need period products. Here’s how you can help

Homeless outreach program HOST will shut down this month. September 12, 2016 Category: FeaturePurposeShort
Homeless women get their periods, too.

Food, water, shelter. Those are the three necessities that come to mind when we think about what people experiencing homelessness need. But we — mostly men — often overlook a big one for women: Tampons and pads.

Feminine hygiene products are a basic health necessity homeless women do not have regular nor easy access to.

That’s why U by Kotex kicked off Power to the Period earlier this summer. The campaign asks ordinary citizens to launch period product donation drives. Over 45,770 people have launched drives so far, collecting over 208,000 individual period products, according to a release from U By Kotex.

Right now, more than 200 donation drives are in motion in Philadelphia.

Wanna start your own campaign? Go here or text PERIOD to 38383. Collected products can be donated locally at either People’s Emergency Center or Camden County Women’s Center.
