Hey, teachers: Earn those Act 48 credits with Penn’s ‘Science and Race’ series
September 19, 2016 Category: Event, Purpose, ShortHere are two things Pennsylvania teachers these days absolutely need:
Socially, they need to be able to foster meaningful dialogue about race and diversity in the classroom. Legally, they need to accrue the 180 hours of professional development Act 48 requires of them every five years.
One thing Pennsylvania educators probably don’t need is a local reporter telling them things they need. But just wait.
This week, Penn Museum is kicking off its Science and Race: History, Use and Abuse series. The special series will feature five multi-disciplinary presentations and panel discussions taking place between now and Nov. 16. Each presentation (listed below) delves deep into the inner workings of race, science and justice:
- September 21: Understanding the History of Race and Science
- September 28: Biomedicine and Race
- October 26: Genetics and Race
- November 9: Geography, Culture, and Race
- November 16: Violence and Race
Here are two things Pennsylvania teachers absolutely need to know: Financially, every program in the series is free. Professionally, Penn Museum is offering the series to teachers for Act 48 credits.
But you gotta hurry. Slots are filling up, and even though the programs will be livestreamed, you have to be there in-person in order to collect the credits.
