Free money alert: Check out these consulting opportunities for nonprofits

A Compass microproject volunteer orientation. May 22, 2017 Category: FeaturedFundingShort
“Pro bono” is a term that should set every nonprofit pro’s heart aflutter.

It’s not just about getting something for free — it’s about learning new skills and making business connections that can support the organization long past the services’ term.

Here are two upcoming opportunities for nonprofits to earn pro bono services from local experts.

###

First up, there’s Compass, the local branch of a national organization that connects business professionals to nonprofits looking for help in these areas:

  • Board development
  • Funding strategy
  • Strategic partnerships and collaborations
  • Strategic alignment

Each of the 15 — up from last year’s 11 — nonprofits chosen by Compass will receive about $150,000-worth of services. Last year’s nonprofit cohort included Broad Street Ministry, Center for Literacy and Nationalities Services Center.

Apps for the 2017-2018 cohort are open until Monday, June 12.

And next, there’s Wharton Community Consultants (WCC), a Wharton MBA student group that provides volunteer consulting services to nonprofits that need help with the following:

  • Cost analysis and resource allocation
  • Forecasting and financial planning
  • Go-to-market strategy and product launch
  • Growth strategy
  • Marketing and branding
  • Organizational design
  • Technology and digital

Nonprofits should have a clear idea of what their deliverables would be at the project’s end, and of the project’s anticipated impact. WCC has previously served Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Entrepreneur Works and Food Moxie (which also worked with Wharton Social Impact Consulting, another pro bono Penn student initiative).

The group is looking for nonprofit clients for the fall 2017 semester. Apps are due by June 23.
