…Till Next Year

The year's almost over, let's party. December 23, 2024 Category: Op-ed

Sometimes it felt like a breakneck sprint, sometimes it felt like a crawl in slow motion, but we made it to the end of 2024. Each year that passes as of late seems to demand more of us, both as individuals and as fundamental units of a larger whole, whether that whole is our families, our communities, or society at large.

As I reflect at the close, the words “wildly eventful” come to mind, as it seemed practically every week we were forced to engage with some incident or another at an amped-up level of emotion, ferocity, terror, urgency, rage, involvement, or voice.

The word “reconnect” has been knocking around in my head, too. Over the last few years, hard lines have been drawn between people, values, and identities that didn’t used to seem as indelible as they do now. Those lines have threatened our civic cohesion in a way that can’t just be chalked up.

It’s been just so much; I don’t even have to tell you that, because you’ve been here, too. Whether or not we celebrate or observe the holidays, I think it’s safe to say we could all use a break.

Generocity is going to take a break, too. When we come back in the new year, we’ll have an entirely new line of discourse to explore through our editorial theme for 2025: Social Sustainability.

Through this theme, our content and stories will aim to answer questions about what it takes to create the equitable, healthy and enriching conditions in communities across the greater Philadelphia area that can ensure their thriving existence into the distant future. We’ll be looking at four primary tenets of social sustainability — inclusion, justice, government responsiveness, and community voice — using each as a lens through which to examine how individuals, communities, government and industry partners can strengthen these pillars for the long-term well-being of everyone. More details to come in 2025!

From our Partners

We’re excited for this, and for the discourse and brand-new opportunities for engagement that next year will bring. In the meantime, take care of yourselves, friends.

Warmly,
Dio Roberson,
Managing Editor
