WePAC Library Volunteer - West Philadelphia Alliance for Children

Job Description

Library volunteers serve in WePAC partner school libraries for 2-3 hours per week by supporting WePAC’s mission of fostering a love of reading and interest in books for our children. WePAC library volunteers work in teams of 2-5 members to facilitate library programs at WePAC partner schools. Team members lead a number of activities related to library programs, including but not limited to read-a-louds, literacy based activities and checking books in/out of the library.  Anyone who loves books and children is well-suited for this position.

Location: Library placement is determined after availability is discussed with WePAC’s program manager. All 14 WePAC partner schools are located in West Philadelphia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read-a-loud
  • Leading short activities
  • Helping students find books in the library
  • Checking books In/Out of the library
  • Shelving/Cataloging books
  • Other duties could be assigned


Time Commitment: At least 2 hours a week for the duration of the school year (September – May). All teams operate during regular school hours, though exact schedules will vary based upon volunteer availability and school placement. 

Training / Support: 

  • Initial phone orientation
  • New volunteer training 
  • Monthly training opportunities 
  • Quarterly Town Halls

Evaluation:  

  • All volunteers are encouraged to complete a volunteer satisfaction survey after each academic school term of service within their specific school libraries.
