More than 75% of the teachers surveyed by guest columnist Ain Grooms reported a negative sense of belonging, especially when they thought school districts would not devise policies to actively address equity and racism.

"Communities in Philly — particularly Black communities — stand to lose opportunities for coverage and collaboration with journalists if the internal issues at KYW-TV and other local outlets are not promptly addressed," says guest columnist Tauhid Chappell.

"We have to recognize we haven’t gotten it right and that getting different voices in the room is not enough," says guest columnist Cheryl Thompson-Morton.

Look outside of your own networks to find candidates, says columnist Valerie Johnson, and then check your assumptions and implicit bias during the interview process.

"If organizations want to walk the talk on equity, diversity, and inclusion, then disclosing salary is a quick, tangible, and relatively easy action to take," says Vu Le.

The many nonprofits that are rushing to recruit people of color to their board and executive staff are likely unprepared to provide truly inclusive spaces for those folks, says columnist Valerie Johnson.

"My semester may be over, but I know my students are watching as the adults they depend on to make the world livable figure out what to do," says guest columnist LiRon Anderson-Bell.

"Those in power, who previously held others to 'professional' standards, are experiencing for themselves how difficult it is to maintain those standards when life is hard," says guest columnist Sam Chenkin.
