Should big foundations in big cities stick to fighting local problems or look to solving ones beyond their city limits?

YOUTHadelphia, a committee of Philadelphia Foundation's Fund for Children, made the call on who got the cash this year based on their personal concerns. The teens chose five nonprofits from a pool of 28 applicants.

The public foundation’s new grantmaking model, Giving Projects, trains socially minded community members to make educated funding decisions.
