Tech in the Commons

Tech in the Commons is a reporting and event series to familiarize place-based nonprofits with trending technologies, organized by Generocity.

This project is produced annually by Generocity. It was supported by the Knight Foundation in 2017 and 2018; and since 2018 has been supported by Comcast NBCUniversal.

The series’ goal is to help place-based nonprofits better understand how to leverage new technologies for the sake of improving engagement with their communities.

The first of the events scheduled for 2020  Tech in the Commons: Podcasting 101 for Nonprofits took place April 2 via Zoom and was led by founder of, Molly Beck. Forty-three staff members from nonprofits across the sector were in attendance. You can watch the presentation in full here.

Representatives from more than 175 nonprofits and related mission groups attended at least one of the four events in 2017. Check out the ebook that was produced after those sessions here.

The second annual was bi-weekly, with the addition of “Project Nights”, from April through June 2018.

The third annual Tech in the Commons: Connect the Dots with Census Data, Spring 2019.

The fourth annual Tech in the Commons: Entrepreneurial Skills for Nonprofits, Fall 2019.
