After a 20 year hiatus, the NAACP Philly Chapter is pushing for millennials
July 24, 2015 Category: PeopleThe National NAACP Convention convened in July in Philadelphia and leaders gathered to rally around #BlackVotersMatter. This year, there was something new to celebrate from the Philly group.
After about 20 years, the Millennial and Young Adult Committee was resurrected in January by the NAACP Philly Chapter. The newly elected president, Minister Rodney Muhammad, saw that the general body of the local chapter was older, and tapped Felicia Harris and Danielle Jeter to bring life into the committee.
Harris, President & CEO of Influencing Action Movement, also serves on the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia NAACP and was named a 2014 Connector and Keeper by Leadership Philadelphia.
Jeter also serves as the Chair for the Public Relations Committee, is a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and is CEO and Founder of the communications firm Affairs of Isis.
The newly formed committee of young leaders 21-35 years old includes subcommittees on the topics of:
- Economic Welfare
- Education
- Social / Community Issues
- Voting/Politics
The Millennials Committee will hold its first big event and fundraiser on August 13 at TGI Friday’s on the Parkway. The Happy Hour will benefit the Philadelphia NAACP Chapter Millennials Committee.
