Here’s your chance to weigh in on the Frank Rizzo statue’s future
August 25, 2017 Category: Purpose, ShortWhat’s in a statue?
Ever since the deadly violence in Charlottesville stemming from disagreements of what should happen to the Confederate statues there, there have been plenty of calls to action and editorializing in Philly as to what the fate of the controversial Frank Rizzo statue should be (with some taking matters into their own hands).
The city is aware that there are plenty of ideas floating around and now wants to hear what you think should be the future of the monument and it’s current location in front of the Municipal Services Building.
Through Sept. 15, the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy is taking any and all opinions from Philadelphians via an online form. You’ve got a 500-word limit to explain what your idea is, in addition to considering what the actual costs and feasibility of said idea is.

The form page reminds people though that the city is “not obligated to pursue any idea” that is sent in — as it was reported on earlier by Billy Penn, the city’s nine-member Art Commission has the last say in whatever happens to the Rizzo statue but only after an official proposal is made from Mayor Jim Kenney’s office.
Here are some of the ideas out there in the Twitter-verse:

Idea: Melt the Frank Rizzo statue and recast it into special bronze parking boots for the Broad St median parkers

#askkenney What do you think will change if it is decided to take down the Frank Rizzo statue?

My suggestion: Turn the Rizzo statue into a JERKY BOYS homage and put up a statue on the east side of City Hall to commemorate MANNEQUIN.
