Reactions to the guilty verdict in the Chauvin trial

Today brought a verdict. A jury found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of the murder of George Floyd.

The Twitterverse exploded with reactions.

Tears. Hope. The understanding that there is healing to be embarked upon and that there is so much work still to be done.

It also brought renewed calls to defund the police.

This verdict is a step toward justice, but it doesn't change the fact that George Floyd should still be alive today.

Now, we have to do the hard work of preventing these tragedies from occurring in the first place by confronting the institutional racism that's caused them.
