Last August, Forsei Consulting started its Campaign for New B’s to educate Philadelphians on the value of sustainable business, promote the causes of different responsible industries, and recruit customers and entrepreneurs alike to make Philly a hub for sustainable business practices. Part of this is proving to business owners, consumers, and B Corps why being sustainable and responsible is important- and that you can operate a profitable, successful business with these values at heart.
This month’s target audience is breweries. And who better to start with than Yards (Ranked No. 2 sustainable breweries in the US by Triple Pundit). Yards Brewery is proof that you can have an amazing product, a loyal customer following, profit, and success — all while embodying sustainability and social responsibility (more info found here). To highlight this, Forsei spoke with Chris Hancq of Yards Brewery, who discussed the ins and outs of being a sustainable brewery in Philly.
What led to the creation of Yards? What were the ideas/beliefs behind its founding?
Yards was created to make beers of great character rooted in the British brewing tradition. Tom Kehoe, and his original partner and college buddy, Jon Bovit, became enamored with the brewing industry while working for a now defunct brewery in Maryland shortly after college. Rumor has it, they may have brewed a batch or two in their college dorm.
