Philadelphia Futures Named the Youth Programming ‘Champion in Action’

January 30, 2014 Category: Funding

The “Champions in Action” grant couldn’t have come at a better time for Philadelphia Futures.  The nonprofit organization, which helps to prepare first-generation-to-college low-income students to enter and succeed in college, fills the gaps in programs and resources cut by the Philadelphia School District as a result of the budget criss. Philadelphia Futures received the first 2014 “Champions in Action” award in the category of youth programming on January 23.

“This Award could not have come at a more critical time. As the School District of Philadelphia faces an unprecedented budget crisis, Philadelphia students are seeing the limited resources in their schools reduced or eliminated,”  said Joan C. Mazzotti, Philadelphia Futures’ executive director in a press release.

The award, presented by the Citizens Bank Foundation, NBC10, the Inquirer, the Daily News and Philly.com, includes $35,000 in unrestricted grants, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for Philadelphia Futures’s work.

Philadelphia Futures will use the grant for its new Outreach Futures initiative, which brings Philadelphia Futures expertise in college access to the broader Philadelphia community through programming and its Step Up to College Guide.
