Airbnb’s Social Impact Experiences program is launching in Philly
January 12, 2018 Category: Featured, Purpose, ShortYou know Airbnb for letting you book cheap rooms with locals during your travels, but the San Francisco-based company is also getting in on the impact game.
Its Social Impact Experiences program connects tourists to activities promoting local nonprofits’ missions or causes —think private tours of the Brooklyn Museum or a gospel performance with Harlem’s Mama Foundation for the Arts. Nonprofits set the cost of the experience and pay no booking fee, so all proceeds go directly to the organization.
Social Impact Experiences are live in over 50 cities; check out some examples here. The program is launching in Philly this February. Interested in hosting? Let Airbnb know below.
Personally, we’d love to see some experiences that show off more than the typical tourist traps. May we suggest a playdate with the pups of New Leash on Life? Maybe a boat-making session with Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory? Perhaps a meal and discussion about food security at EAT Café?
Philly has a few thousand nonprofits. The possibilities are endless.
