How can more women actively invest their wealth? Join this live podcast recording

November 11, 2020 Category: FeaturedMediaPurposeShort

Four in five women will someday be solely responsible for their household wealth. That’s due both to life expectancy and the rise of ‘”gray” divorce — in addition to diversifying relationship types.

But for all the remarkable gains in the last 50 years, only a third of women with male partners report playing an equal role in family financial decisions, according to the annual “Own Your Wealth” report from UBS. Just 16% of women report leading. Half say their partner leads. The trend is more pronounced among Millennial women married to men; Two-thirds say they leave financial decisions to their husbands.

For years, women’s wealth was growing faster than that of men — though the crushing ramifications of the 2020 recession on women is not fully understood.

So the result is a yawning lack of preparedness for crucial wealth management and financial independence. It runs in counter to  a growing movement of women taking larger roles in the worlds of investment and entrepreneurship, as systems and institutions place greater emphasis on diversity, inclusion and equity.

To help educate aspiring funders and founders, Generocity‘s sister site Technical.ly created Off the Sidelines, an investor education podcast sponsored by Project Entrepreneur, a program by UBS. Project Entrepreneur is on a mission to change the status quo for women founders and accelerate their growth through increasing access to capital and building ecosystems to advance women entrepreneurs.
