Where to Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Philadelphia

There’s dozens of options to recycle your Christmas tree this year, but leaving it curbside is not an option if you’re looking to have your tree recycled. Trees left curbside will be treated as trash and collected on normal trash days.
More than 20 local civic and nonprofit organizations are working together to recycle trees this holiday season with the Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability and greenlimbs. These groups are working to collect trees to be chipped and reused to beautify local dog runs, community gardens and parks. Bartlett Tree Experts, All Seasons Landscaping, and Shechtman Tree Care are sponsors this year.
All decorations should be removed and donations are encouraged to defray costs.
They’re offering two days of tree drop-offs, January 4 and January 5 in different neighborhoods around Philly:
Saturday, January 4:
- Kensington/ Fishtown, 9:30am-12:30pm at Palmer Dog Depot
- South Philadelphia, 10am-4pm at 13th and Reed Sts.
- Northern Liberties, 10am-4pm at Liberty Lands Park
- West Philadelphia, 10am-4pm at Clark Park
- West Center City, 10am-4pm at Markward Rec. Center
- Weccacoe Community Center, 9am-12pm at 400 Catherine Street
- Whole Foods Market, 9am-4pm at 10th & South (chipping site)
- Passyunk Square, 10am-4pm 13th & Reed
Sunday, January 5:
- Logan Square, 9:30am-12:30pm at the former Boy Scouts building parking lot
- Fairmount/Art Museum, 1pm -4pm at 22nd and Brown Sts.
- Chestnut Hill, 9:30am-2:30pm at the Norwood Fontbonne School
- Mount Airy, 1pm-4pm at Gabbie’s Garden
- East Falls, 12pm-4pm at Ridge Ave and Scotts Lane
Philadelphia Street Department’s Tree Recyling Program
Additionally, trees may be dropped off for recycling at any of the following Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm from Monday, January 6, 2014 through Saturday, January 18, 2014:
- 3033 South 63rd Street
- Domino Lane and Umbria Street
- State Road and Ashburner Street
Trees will be used for composting and/or shredding for mulch and should be free of all decorations, ornaments, plastic bags or wrappings and untied.
