Fairmount Park Conservancy and Parks and Rec Team Up for Love Your Park Week

LOVE Your Park Week, a partnership of the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation and the Fairmount Park Conservancy, features eight days of service projects, fun events, educational programs, family activities, tours, and more in over 100 parks. 

The kickoff event will be held on May 10, with LOVE Your Park Kickoff Service Day, a service day in parks citywide where volunteers will be out in full force to clean, green, and beautify their neighborhood green spaces. On May 13, the Fairmount Park Conservancy is hosting ParkX, an evening of exciting stories, projects and ideas about the Philadelphia park system. ParkX is modeled after Tedx. Each speaker will have five minutes to talk about their projects. The event will be held at Yards Brewing Company. Confirmed speakers include:

• Kim Alsbrooks, creator of the Handmade Map of Fairmount Park
• Andrew Emma of the TreeKeepers Program
• Nic Esposito from PowerCorps PHL
• Emma Fried-Cassorla of Philly Love Notes
• Michael Froelich and Zora of Zora Plays
• Brad Maule with One Man’s Trash
• Alex Mulcahy from Grid Magazine
• Maitreyi Roy of Bartram’s Garden
• Jerome Shabazz of the Overbrook Environmental Education Center

Envisioning Fairmount Park 

Another park-related event happening next week is PennPraxis’s community launch event for “A Community Vision and Action Plan for East and West Fairmount Park.” The action plan is a result of  a year-long planning process which engaged over 1,000 park users and neighbors on how they can make East and West Fairmount Park more accessible and enjoyable for all Philadelphians.

During the launch, held at Smith Memorial Playground on May 13, the project team will present key ideas as well as lead walking tours to early action projects. Check out the draft of the final report here. Get tickets here.
