Destination Frankford, the place-making initiative funded by ArtPlace America, will host the opening for it’s second pop-up gallery, “Rediscover,” on Saturday, May 24. The gallery will feature photographs from seven local photographers who use their cameras to explore Philadelphia’s urban terrain.
Destination Frankford is a coalition of city and neighborhood organizations that are using art and art programming to build the cultural identity of Frankford Avenue. It has also been integrated into the City Planning Commission’s Philadelphia 2035 Lower Northeast District Plan.
The “Rediscover” exhibit will be open on Saturdays from May 24 – June 21. The gallery’s third exhibit, “Reanimate,” featuring the Philadelphia Sculptors, will run from June 28 – July 26. In addition to the gallery exhibits, Destination Frankford is hosting art workshops with the Dumpster Divers (who were featured in the first pop-up gallery exhibit). The next one, “Making Something Out of Nothing” will be taught by Joel Spivak and take place May 24.
Another workshop, “Trash is Simply a Failure of Imagination,” taught by Neil Benson, will be held on June 14. Both workshops will be held at the office of the Tookany/Tacony – Frankford Watershed Partnership at the Globe Dye Works, 4500 Worth Street, 3rd floor. For more information about the workshops and how to register, check out Destination Frankford’s workshop page.
