YOUTHadelphia to Host Open House and Release Fall Application for Up to 50k in Grants

October 6, 2014 Category: FundingUncategorized

Attention, youth-serving nonprofits focused on mental health and LGBT: The Philadelphia Foundation’s youth-in-philanthropy committee, YOUTHadelphia, is hosting a grantmaking open house on Thursday, October 9 at 5 p.m.

Organizations that serve youth in these priority areas, determined by the YOUTHadelphia committee, are encouraged to participate in the open house and will receive a hard copy of the application one day ahead of its online release.

This fall, up to $50,000 will be awarded by The Foundation’s youngest philanthropists, all of whom are Philadelphia high school students with an interest in grantmaking that supports their peers.

The students, 14 in total, meet once a week and have invested time and thought to “select their priorities and design the application,” said Libby O’Donnell, who manages YOUTHadelphia for The Philadelphia Foundation.

“On Thursday, they’ll introduce what they are looking for and describe the grantmaking process,” she added.

Prospective grantees that attend the event will leave with a clearer understanding of the eligibility guidelines. Requests of up to $10,000 will be considered.

Even if your organization isn’t focused on mental health or LGBT, explained O’Donnell, the open house is a good opportunity to learn about YOUTHadelphia.

“If [nonprofits] have youth that might be interested in being a part of YOUTHadelphia, they can certainly send young people to the event to see what goes into the program,” she said.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 3; all finalists are required to host a site visit. Learn more about The Foundation’s general eligibility criteria here.
