Where to Recycle Your Christmas Tree This January
December 19, 2014 Category: UncategorizedThe Philadelphia Streets Department Tree Recycling program, which is in it’s 26th year, will run for two weeks from Monday, January 5 through Saturday, January 17, 2015.
During those two weeks, Philadelphia residents may drop off their trees for recycling at any of the following Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers, Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm: 2601 West Glenwood Avenue; 3033 South 63rd Street; Domino Lane and Umbria Street; and State Road and Ashburner Street.
Christmas trees should be untied and free of all decorations and ornaments.
In addition this year, the Streets Department will offer a new Saturday drop-off program on January 10, 2015 and January 17, 2015. There will be 23 different locations in which you can drop off your tree from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. View the complete list of Saturday drop-off locations.
There’s also a few other things you can do with your tree that the Street Department recommends, such as using small pine limbs and needles for winter mulch material for sensitive plants, and using trees as backyard compost.
In addition, many civic associations offer additional drop-off locations.
There is no curbside collection of Christmas trees for recycling purposes. For those households that cannot participate in the recycling program, trees placed at the curb will be picked up on regularly scheduled collection day as trash.
