The US Social Forum is coming to Philadelphia, converging social justice projects and movements in a regional conversation to bring about broader unity. The goal is to map out action plans for a cohesive movement and organize to be on the offense against all forms of oppression.

The Philadelphia US Social Forum will be take place June 25 through June 28, 2015 at the Howard Gittis Student Center in North Philadelphia and along American St. in the Kensington neighborhood. A complimentary forum is happening in San Jose, California, with smaller gatherings in the Southern US, Canada, and Mexico.

The forum will focus on three major questions:

  • What is the function of an economy and how do we construct a just one?
  • What is true democracy and how can we realize it?
  • What is a nurturing and protective relationship with the Earth and how do we regain that?

The schedule consists of self-organized programming that was pitched and accepted during the last few months. Workshops include presentations co-hosted by the People’s Movement Assemblies and organizations such as the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance, a Philly urban garden bike tour, arts and cultural performances, and a Children’s Social Forum on Friday. The full schedule can be viewed here.

In tandem with the conference is a service to connect attendees called Human Hotel. The accommodation service, similar to AirBnB, works with a limited, curated, set of events picked specifically for like-minded, socially progressive people. Philadelphians can open up their homes as hosts during the event, for a set price of $50.00, to attendees.
