Charles Sellen is currently the inaugural "Global Philanthropy Fellow" at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, as well as a Fulbright laureate in the "NGO Leaders" program.
He has conducted research on philanthropy since he studied at Georgetown University and wrote a report on the international activities of American foundations for the Embassy of France in Washington in 2004. He holds a PhD in economics of philanthropy (Sciences Po Paris), and has worked with France's firstborn research center on philanthropy (CerPhi) as well as with the French Development Agency (AFD).
His interests are at the intersection of these fields: altruism, private foundations and philanthropy, international solidarity and development.
Women also show a greater preference for collective giving and other collaborative charitable efforts than men. Most people who take part in giving circles are women, say guest columnists Tara Skidmore and Charles Sellen.
