When the Center for High Impact Philanthropy mapped regional giving it found anomalies in the data that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.

“There are several unique things about this new Fund. The first is that it is available to groups which are not yet incorporated as formal nonprofits," says Farrah Parkes of the Gender Justice Fund.

“It’s estimated that only 3% of former foster youth who enroll in college will graduate. Through this program, we hope to significantly increase that percentage," said Pedro Ramos of the Philadelphia Foundation, which will administer the grants.

The Kensington Community Resilience Fund, which launches today, will be offering $10,000 grants to community organizations that amplify the voices of the Kensington, Harrowgate and Fairhill communities.

"By lifting restrictions on the use of funds and relying on grantees to tell us what they needed, we made seismic shifts in the distribution of power in our sector," says guest columnist Farrah Parkes.

"We decided that an equity-based pooled fund that used trust-based principles and was community-led would be the most successful model,” said Shira Hodges of Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia.

After the killing of George Floyd, the foundation took a hard look at the funds they still had and committed to supporting organizations that focused on the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism.

The Scattergood Foundation will award four $20,000 grants to grassroots orgs as part of its new grant program, Policy Meets Practice: Think Bigger Do Good Support Local.

The new stimulus package includes $7.25 billion in PPP loans, and has $470 million in support to U.S. arts and cultural organizations.
