"These prison doors become revolving doors. Being in and out, in and out, in and out. That’s the message I was trying to get across," Jerome L. tells Generocity freelancer Shalon Bayliss.

The project's 20 short animated films — conceived, narrated, and animated by people incarcerated in PA correctional institutions — will be screened at Eastern State Penitentiary from Aug. 15 through Sept. 12.

With films from the likes of Questlove and Solange Knowles, and live conversations between luminaries Spike Lee and Tarana Burke, the festival is a must-attend Philly event.

The organization awards up to $2500 paid directly to cover post-production services providers, and is open to producers and directors. But you'll need to hurry to apply — the deadline is July 15.

The films in the series from University of Pennsylvania-based nonprofit Slought prompt conversation about issues in Philadelphia and globally: "Film has the capacity to be radically inclusive."

The nonprofit will screen "Screenagers," a documentary that explores the intersection of "probes into the vulnerable corners of family life" when internet addiction is at play.
