Rooster Soup Co. is opening Jan. 23
January 11, 2017 Category: Purpose, ShortRooster Soup Co. made its first squawks in the summer of 2014 and has been tantalizing the mission-minded in Philadelphia ever since.
The social enterprise, a casual dining spot that will make its namesake soups from leftover Federal Donuts chicken bones and donate all profits to Broad Street Ministry, raised almost $180,000 in crowdfunding to start operations. In Sept. 2015 it announced its Center City location — 1526 Sansom St. — and could be seen making progress on the physical space, but otherwise, updates on the business’s progress have been slow-coming.
This morning, Rooster finally announced an open date: Monday, Jan. 23.
An email to the restaurant’s Kickstarter funders called this date a “moving target” but had clear enthusiasm for sticking to it: “We can’t wait to feed you, and share your incredible hospitality with some of the folks least likely to receive it.”
