These 11 area nonprofits received $225K from Citizens Bank for their financial literacy programs

Managing money is difficult when you don’t have a lot of money to manage.

Financial literacy programs play a crucial role in the fight against poverty, and last week, eleven of those programs across the Greater Philadelphia region received a collective $225,000 from Citizens Bank through the institution’s annual Citizens Helping Citizens Manage Money program.

The bank doled out a total of $1.4 million to 80 nonprofits nationally. Here’s who landed donations in the area:

• Clarifi: The organization provides one-on-one financial consulting services to low-income families and individuals in the region.
• United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey: The Citizens Bank donation will help the regional behemoth offer financial stability programs for low-income workers.
• The Enterprise Center: The West Philly organization will use the donation to help small business owners better meet the needs of disadvantaged minority entrepreneurs.
• Urban Affairs Coalition: The donation will support the Coalition’s Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Clubs, a combination of financial literacy education and peer group support.
• Entrepreneur Works Fund: The fund supports Philadelphia entrepreneurs launching new businesses.
• Finanta: The nonprofit lender will use the donation for programs that help individuals, families and businesses stabilize their finances.
• West End Neighborhood House: The organization’s $tand By Me program helps low-income individuals “achieve economic advancement and stability.”
• Esperanza: Citizens Bank’s donation will support the North Philly-based nonprofit’s Housing & Financial Literacy Project, a program that provides bilingual housing counseling services and financial literacy education.
• Junior Achievement of New Jersey: The donation will support the 2017 Citizens Bank JA Day “to bring financial education to students annually.”
• Chester County Improvement Projects: The nonprofit provides services to low-income Chester families.
• Latin American Economic Development Association: The nonprofit provides financial education services to aspiring entrepreneurs through its Entrepreneurial Development Training Program.
