The many nonprofits that are rushing to recruit people of color to their board and executive staff are likely unprepared to provide truly inclusive spaces for those folks, says columnist Valerie Johnson.

This isn't your typical how-to. This conversation, which took place at Generocity's INTER/VIEW jobs fair, had an equity focus and it got real. Example? Not being open about salary is a tool of white supremacy.

"Hundreds of thousands are in the streets telling us that a new reality is necessary and possible. We can let ourselves be part of making that happen," says guest columnist Sam Chenkin.

"Today, there is an urgent need for philanthropic institutions and philanthropists to take more deliberate and intentional steps to dismantle white supremacy," says guest columnist Sidney Hargro.

"My semester may be over, but I know my students are watching as the adults they depend on to make the world livable figure out what to do," says guest columnist LiRon Anderson-Bell.

"Those in power, who previously held others to 'professional' standards, are experiencing for themselves how difficult it is to maintain those standards when life is hard," says guest columnist Sam Chenkin.

For the past three years, the board governance program has expanded its reach to over 200 nonprofit partners.
