This year’s Philly DoGooder Awards will be open to more than just nonprofits. Individuals and for-profits are welcome to apply, as long as they demonstrate a concept for a sustainable social program.

Philly DoGooder launched in 2013 to help nonprofits use the power of impact storytelling by connecting them with skilled filmmakers. DoGooder is broken down into two parts: a hackathon and the DoGooder awards. The theme for this year’s awards is community building.

The Hackathon is a 12-day intensive experience where social good organizations and filmmakers will have the opportunity to get deep into the art of mission-based storytelling. The Hackathon will kick-off with an event on MLK Day, January 20, where the Philly DoGooder team and guest speakers will host an open workshop on storytelling in the digital age.

Applications for the Hackathon are open until December 31. Only 25 spots are available. Those selected to participate will be notified by January 9. General awards submissions for those who have films completed will run through February 1.

During the awards, held March 12th at University of the Arts Hamilton Hall, six awards will be announced (three from the Hackathon and three determined by a public vote). An overall winner will be decided by attendees of the award ceremony.  In addition, three awards will be given to individuals and organization leaders.

Generocity is the financial sponsor and lead organizer on Philly DoGooder I and II.
