The Neighbors in Action Community Leadership Workshops, organized by Global Citizen and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, will help its participants identify how they may organize service projects and other activities in their communities to address needs.  The workshops will also share best practices in civic leadership and focus on building community leadership and involvement through civic engagement.

The next workshop will be a webinar on July 8. In addition, throughout the month of July, Global Citizen and United Way will host in-person workshops in Norristown on July 15, Center City on July 22, and other locations throughout the rest of the year (find them on EventBrite).

Global Citizen is also partnering with Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery for a  restoration project day on Saturday July 12, where volunteers will clean the cemetery grounds, removing shrubs and debris from grave sites.

At the end of the month on July 30, it will host the 6th Annual MLK365 BEER SUMMIT: A Continuing Conversation on Race Relations at Reading Terminal Market. After the July 2009 arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates on the front porch of his own home by Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley, President Obama invited the two men to the White House for a meeting over beer to discuss the incident. The Beer Summit was first started when Global Citizen organized a Beer Summit to occur at the same time as Obama’s meeting. Global Citizen organized a meeting in Center City Philadelphia for concerned citizens to meet, mingle, and discuss race relations in our city and throughout America. They’ve continued the tradition with a discussion about race, class and power.
